John Sinclair discography and bio

John Sinclair was born in 1941 in Flint, Michigan and is a poet, musician, marijuana legalization activist, a counter - culture hero, ex leader of the "White Panther Party", was involved with the Detroit underground newspaper "Fifth Estate"and former manager of the band MC5.

In 1968 while under the management of John Sinclair, MC5 played at a free concert outside the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The band was the only band to play before Chicago police and the National Guard broke up the massive anti - Vietnam war protest. MC5 in 1969 decided Sinclair's White Panther Party politics to heavy handed and went their separate ways.

In 1969 Sinclair gave a hippie two joints, the hippie turned out to be a under cover narcotics officer. With the new war (the war on drugs) just starting he was sentenced to an unbelievable 9 1/2 to 10 years in prison ! With the help of his friend John Lennon his case received international attention when Lennon performed at a benefit concert on Sinclair's behalf, and Sinclair who many considered a political prisoner was released in 1971after the concert.
